Through thirty-one, fun-filled activities and projects, "The Complete Backyard Nature Activity Book" shows children how to create a "naturescape," a place for wild creatures to find food, water and shelter, either in a suburban backyard or in urban settings of rooftops and apartment balconies. While emphasizing the importance that wildlife needs to remain "wild", the author has created an activity book with factual information and illustrated activities through which children can learn about nature as they invite wildlife into their local environment. For those who do not have space to create a naturescape, the author suggests extending projects to community involvement as well as making gifts out of some of the activities. Projects, many of which use recycled materials, include the creation of native flowering gardens, the building of feeders, planter boxes, bird baths, bat houses, birdhouses and ponds -- all with the focus of working with nature to sustain native wildlife.
