"The Autumn Equinox" takes readers around the world showing how the harvest season has been celebrated by many cultures throughout time to give thanks for the crops that sustain people over the winter. Descriptions of Chinese, Celt, Germanic, English and Pilgrim seasonal festivals as well as the Iroquois Green Corn Dance, the Nigerian Yam Festival, and the Indian Pongal feast depict the harvest celebrations by peoples of the earth, of which certain traditions reappear in our festivities of Thanksgiving and Halloween. An adaptation of a Native American Sauk harvest legend as well as "Classroom Activities" of a number of festivals to make Chinese Moon Cakes, an African Harvest Drum and a Pongal Dessert incorporate the various seasonal festivities into children's contemporary culture.
