Based on a true account about a nine-year old African girl and her goat Mugisa, Beatrice’s Goat describes the impact that charitable donations can make in improving the lives of needy people in third world countries. The simple gift of the goat to a family living in a Ugandan village enriches their diet, enables them to sell the goat’s milk and its kids to other villagers to buy clothing and household items, and eventually fulfills Beatrice’s dream of attending the local school, when her family finally can afford to purchase her a uniform and books. Lohstoeter’s acrylic paintings of the picture book vividly evoke the landscape of western Uganda, the local banana groves and tropical vegetation, the thatched huts of the villagers as well as scenes of the daily life of Beatrice, her family and the goats.
